abstract = "This paper determines the identification of titaniun (Ti) found
along the coastal region of Rio Grande do Sul through the spectral
classification of satellite images of the Hyperion sensor. As a
contribution, it demonstrates the possibility of building mineral
mapping using satellite datafor coastal areas without vegetation
cover. The methodology steps were: 1) bibliographic review to
determine concentration values typical of the mineral of interest
                         2) selecting from a spectral library of signatures minerals of
interest; 3) determination of the features characteristic for
minerals of interest, generating endmember files; 4) obtaining and
pre-processing of hyperspectral data from Hyperion to the study
area; 5) reducing the dimensionality of the hyperspectral data
analyzed in order to avoid redundancy and excess processing; 6)
comparing the selected and endmembers this spectral response for
each pixel of the image by using the spectral comparison technique
known as first-derivative; 7) determination of the presence of
minerals of titanium maps for the analyzed area; and 8) comparison
between the results and those described in the literature. From
this method, they built up thematic images indicating the presumed
presence mineral per pixel, represented in scale concentration.
The work exposed the use of orbital sensor data as an important
mining support tool as well as the mapping of mineral resources
                         over large areas.",
